"I had documents from four different employers going back to 1989 and I genuinely did not know where some of them were. After the file assembly, everything was in one place with a proper contents page. The gap list showed me I was missing the records from one employer entirely — something I had not even noticed. I was able to write to them directly with the right reference."

Back to HomeWhat People Brought Away
"The statement reading session was not what I expected — I thought it would be about my specific figures, but it is more like a guided explanation of how the statement works. Once I understood the layout, I could see what my own figures were saying without needing anyone to tell me. I would have found this useful ten years ago. The glossary is still on my desk."
"I took the six-month retainer while managing my father's retirement correspondence alongside my own. There were three institutions involved and letters were arriving at irregular intervals — some needing replies, some just acknowledgements, and some that seemed to be asking for information we had already sent. Having a master register meant we could track what was outstanding without digging through email threads. The handover pack was exactly what our solicitor needed."
"I came in for the statement reading session with my mother, who is 64 and received her first EPF statement last year. We were both confused by the same things — what the contribution date column actually meant and where the balance figure comes from. By the end of the session, both of us understood the layout. The session was conducted partly in Bahasa Malaysia and partly in English, which helped my mother follow along."
"The file assembly took two sessions spread over four weeks as described. At the end I had everything sorted by employer — five of them in total — with the contents page printed and the drive returned to me. My only note is that the first appointment runs close to two hours if you have a large volume of documents, so it is worth arriving without time pressure. The gap list identified one missing year which I was able to chase up before seeing my planner."
"My husband passed away and the paperwork involved in sorting his pension and EPF was something I felt completely unprepared for. A friend suggested Ferrywell. Siti at the office was very calm about everything — she explained the file assembly process clearly, did not rush, and was careful to explain what she would not be doing as well as what she would. The bound file she produced at the end went straight to our family solicitor."
Three Crossings in Detail
From a Shoebox to a Working File
File Assembly — Kuching — May 2025A retired government hospital employee came in with a shoebox containing 32 years of documents from five different roles — including two periods of service on secondment to different agencies. Nothing was dated, some pages had been filed inside envelopes from unrelated correspondence, and three documents were in a language the client could not read.
The first appointment took two hours and twenty minutes — longer than usual. All documents were sorted chronologically by employer. Non-English documents were identified and flagged on the gap list with a note. The contents page listed each employer with the date range covered and the number of pages filed.
At the second appointment, the client arrived with two additional documents they had found at home using the gap list as a guide. The file went from 32 years of unsorted paper to a single indexed file with a printed contents page and a digital mirror — ready to take to a financial planner. Timeline: 4 weeks.
"I did not realise how much I did not know was in that box. The gap list actually found something I had been looking for for years."
Managing Three Institutions Over Six Months
Coordination Retainer — Miri — January–June 2025An adult son managing his father's retirement affairs while working full-time was receiving letters from EPF, a former employer's occupational scheme, and an insurance policy held since 1998. Letters were arriving without reference numbers, some appeared to be duplicate requests for information already submitted, and the son had no way to track what was still outstanding.
A master register was set up at the beginning of January. Every item received was logged with date, sender, subject, and reference number. Expected replies were added to a calendar. A neutral chronology was maintained throughout. Monthly check-in calls with the son took thirty minutes each. Nothing was sent on behalf of the family.
At the end of six months, the bound handover pack contained the full register, the chronology, a list of three items still awaiting response with the dates they were sent, and the professional directory. The pack was passed to the family's solicitor, who said it was the clearest picture of the correspondence he had seen in a case of this kind. Timeline: 6 months.
"The register alone saved hours of searching through emails trying to work out what we had sent and when."
Understanding Before the Adviser Appointment
Statement Reading Session — Kuching — June 2025A woman approaching 55 had booked an appointment with a licensed financial planner but felt she would not be able to follow the conversation without understanding what her EPF statement was actually showing. She had received two different statements in the same month and was unsure which reflected her current position.
The ninety-minute session covered the layout of a standard EPF statement — columns, contribution date conventions, and where the running balance appears versus the annual summary. The annotated sample used in the session was given to her to take away. The bilingual glossary was provided in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. Her own figures were not discussed.
She arrived at her planner appointment with vocabulary in hand and was able to ask specific questions rather than general ones. She returned two weeks later for a file assembly engagement. Timeline: 1 appointment, 90 minutes.
"I walked into the planner meeting knowing what I was looking at. That is not a small thing."
